1. [Particle]

⇒ used to express disagreement with some statement or to correct one's own words (the part of the statement that is objected to or corrected is repeated):

- [in limited contexts] don't call it...

2. [Interj]

⇒ used to express a negative reaction to a suggestion, request etc, express one's opinion that some suggestion is unrealistic, some undertaking is futile etc:

- no way!;

- nothing doing!;

- not on your (sweet) life!;

- not a chance!;

- [in limited contexts] far from it.

     ♦ ...Лукашин начал действовать. Не прямо, конечно, чтобы встретились, как мужчина с мужчиной, и давай по-деловому, раз уж так все получилось. Какое там! Not a meeting in man-to-man, "let's get on with it since this is the way things have worked out" fashion. Not on your sweet life! How could he be in a mood to meet with Grigory when the mere mention of his name made him quiver?... (1a).
